Biodiversity and Eco Services
River groups must work collaboratively across the globe and ‘twin up’ to put pressure on governments, businesses and society to take swift action on rivers to tackle the impacts of climate change on communities, environmental charity Thames21 has warned.
Thames Water and Affinity Water have helped to launch an ambitious new initiative that aims to improve the health of local chalk streams, starting with those in the Chilterns.
The Environment Agency has completed a £2.5 million project to remove the Dovecliff weir at Egginton, South Derbyshire following a 24-month programme of works.
A new Chalk Stream Restoration Strategy published today is calling for chalk streams in England to be given enhanced environmental status.
In a new report to Government published today, the Environment Agency is warning of more extreme weather leading to increased flooding and drought, sea level rises of up to 78 centimetres by the 2080s, and public water supplies needing more than 3.4 billion extra litres of water per day by 2050.
