The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs and Environment Agency has said it now expects costs of around £16.2 billion to upgrade the flood defences in the Thames Estuary for the period 2023 to 2100 – a rise around 50% since 2012.
The Environment Agency has said it will publish an updated Thames Estuary 2100 Plan in May 2023, following the conclusion of a consultation on its proposals which ran from 26 September to 20 November in 2022.

The Environment Agency has been progressing its £1 million project to install a gantry at Taplow Weir on the Jubilee flood relief channel which helps protect 3,200 properties in Maidenhead, Windsor, Eton and Cookham should the River Thames flood.
