Regulation and Legislation
Ofwat has published the results of its customer satisfaction and experience for water and wastewater companies in England and Wales over the last year.
Ofwat has flagged up a number of areas where the water companies will need to strengthen their existing approach to asset management maturity.
A project to slash greenhouse gas emission and energy demand of used water processing and create a new source of hydrogen energy, and a project in partnership with the Rivers Trust and the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) to clean up the country’s rivers, have been announced today as two of the nine winners of Ofwat’s first Water Breakthrough Challenge.
The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs has launched two new consultations on plans to modernise water abstraction and enhance the Environment Agency's (EA) powers to protect groundwater.
Ofwat’s interim chief executive has set out six key areas of focus to help drive change in water, telling industry representatives “we can’t simply build our way out of the challenges in front of us”.
- Yorkshire Water calls for greater oversight of how Ofwat delivers and more direct accountability to Parliament
- Defra publishes new guidance for river basin planning from 2021 to 2027
- Government accepts NIC recommendations to implement resilience standards and testing for critical national infrastructure
- CMA seeks comments in inquiry on Pennon Group plc / Bristol Water merger
