Ofwat and MOSL are drawing up a package of initiatives aimed at minimising disruption to the operation of the business retail water market as a result of coronavirus and warning that the impacts are already being felt.
Ofwat has written to the the Chief Executives of the water companies in England and Wales setting out the regulator’s expectations how companies should support vulnerable customers and assist retailers facing immediate cash flow constraints in the current COVID-19 coronavirus emergency.
Following a review of the current regulatory regime for sludge treatment, storage and use, in 2021 the Agency intends to bring sludge and septic tank sludge into the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations (EPR). The Sludge (Use in Agriculture) Regulations (SUiAR) will no longer be needed.
Ofwat has today made its submission to the Competition and Markets Authority after four of the 17 water companies appealed to the CMA against the outcome of Ofwat’s recent price review.
Ofwat and the Environment Agency are calling on authorised wholesalers and licensed retailers in the retail water sector in England and Wales to deliver greater water efficiency in the business sector.
