ANGLIAN WATER PIPELINE GENERIC 1

AtkinsRéalis will provide engineering, planning and environmental services for a new 75km pipeline to supply up to 50Ml/day of water from Grafham Water, west of Cambridge to a reservoir location at Rede, West Suffolk. This critical piece of infrastructure will ensure long-term water supply for the region to meet customer demand, and will also enable the city of Cambridge to grow and develop in a sustainable way.

In addition, AtkinsRéalis has also been appointed to carry out the design, consenting and enabling services for the Colchester Reuse Water pipeline project, which consists of a demonstration centre and 7km pipeline and associated pumping station. Both important schemes form part of the wider Anglian Water 25 year Water Resource Management plan, which exists to ensure safe water supply to the region.

The appointment is testament to AtkinsRéalis’ expertise in the areas of water quality and planning as well as knowledge from previous pipeline projects for Anglian Water including the Strategic Pipeline Alliance and working extensively under the Asset Management framework across the UK and Anglia.

Richard Whale, Global Water Market Director at AtkinsRéalis, said:

“We are looking forward to continuing our strong relationship with Anglian Water and bringing our experience harnessed from similar pipeline projects delivered in the region to provide new solutions that will help to achieve sustainable growth and strengthen water supplies in the East of England.

“This is another good example of how we can work with our clients to deliver engineering solutions that solve some of the biggest challenges facing the country, as well as providing positive social value and economic outcomes for places like Cambridge.”

Bhavik Anilcumar, Project Manager at Anglian Water, commented:

“The Grafham Water to Rede pipeline is a key part of the wider Anglian Water 25 year Water Resource Management plan, which we have put in place to secure resilient water supplies for the region for years to come.

“We were looking to work with an engineering partner that had the right experience in delivering this kind of scheme as well as broad experience in the global water market. Having worked with AtkinsRéalis on major schemes such as SPA, we have full confidence in their ability to deliver on both of these schemes.”
