First Great Western Ltd has gone out to tender with a contract for technical testing, analysis and consultancy services worth an estimated £930,000.

The contract covers environmental monitoring and asbestos testing across 53 stations and 5 engineering depots.

GWR are seeking to appoint a contractor until the end of the current franchise to undertake environmental monitoring, provide reports and a portal with all updates and certificates.

Oil sampling is taken directly from the trains at the rail operator's depots. Examples of sampling/testing required under the contract include:

  • oil sampling
  • asbestos testing and condition reporting
  • water supply
  • various coolant tests
  • deionised water
  • fuel tanks
  • effluent discharge
  • open water quality
  • carriage wash sampling
  • tank fed water supplies

 

The current franchise exists until 31 March 2023 with an option of a further year. The same will apply to the contract being tendered.
