London Gateway Port Ltd, the UK’s fastest growing deep-sea container terminal, has gone out to tender with a multi-million pound contract for the design and construction of Berth 4.
London Gateway Port Ltd, the UK’s fastest growing deep-sea container terminal, has gone out to tender with a multi-million pound contract for the design and construction of Berth 4.
The wide-ranging marine construction works tender includes:
- design and construction of Berth 4
- 430 m extension of the existing deep-water quay
- dredging of the berth pocket and approaches
- earthworks, removal of existing surcharge material and ground improvement
- 10 on shore stacks to be operated by automated stacking cranes (ASCs),
- heavy duty pavements and other surfacing
- surface water drainage
- hazardous container storage including pipework and holding tanks for contaminated effluent
- testing and commissioning
DP World, owners of London Gateway Port, is the only terminal operator to provide a choice of two deep water ports in the UK – the other is at Southampton on the south coast.
Members of consortia submitting tenders will be required to become jointly and severally liable for the project.
