FLOATING OFFSHORE WIND SECTOR 2

Floating wind has made significant advances in recent years and is set to become a major contributor to global offshore wind capacity over the coming decades.

Floating wind is an important counterpart to fixed offshore wind and will make an increasingly important contribution to realising the full potential of the sector. Floating wind sites in the South west and Scotland will support the UK offshore wind supply chain, with 57% UK content expected by 2031 and 65% by 2050.

The Celtic Sea Alliance was launched by the Minister for Energy, Environment and Rural Affairs in October, 2019 and is a collaboration between Marine Energy Wales, Cornwall & Isles of Scilly LEP and Marine Renewables Industry Association (Ireland).

Today, the UK leads the world in deployment of floating wind and has the opportunity to develop a sustainable industry supporting large-scale employment, exports and GVA.

With over 100GW of floating wind ID in the Celtic Sea, this will provide significant supply chain opportunities via a pipeline of projects to develop 1GW of Floating Wind;

The ORE Catapult will be launching the Floating Wind Great South West & Wales Supply Chain Report at the event, which takes place in Milford Haven on Thursday 30 January.

Attendees will hear from a number of expert speakers including:

• ORE Catapult

• Cornwall & Isle of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership

• Welsh Government

• Marine Energy Wales

• Port of Milford Haven

• Wave Hub

• Simply Blue Energy

The event is sponsored by the ORE Catapult and Welsh Government and supported by Marine Energy Wales and Marine Hub Cornwall
