Portsmouth Water has lauched a pre-market engagement exercise seeking supply chain input for an upcoming multi-million pound AMP8 tender for boundary boxes and accessories for water meters.

The water company has issued a Request For Information notice ahead of going out to tender early next year with a contract with a current estimated value of £4.7 million.
Portsmouth Water is planning to purchase boundary boxes for operational purposes and its smart water meter deployment programme over the next 10 years which will primarily be installed at new or previously unmetered properties.
In addition, the company will also be undertaking maintenance and replacement of existing boundary box installations. The Boundary boxes will be required to meet the following specifications:
- must be Reg31 compliant (Regulation 31 of The Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2016 (as amended)
- ideally be a sealed unit adjustable and telescopic to adjust to different depths of meter installations, though other solutions will be considered.
- ideally cater for shallow installations as well as installation in contaminated ground.
- will ideally provide 25mm pushfit fittings within the boundary box.
Portsmouth Water also wants to assess different boundary box lid constructs due to its deployment of smart metering and communication requirements which will be a key consideration in the selection of lid materials.
The water company intends to award the contract for an initial 5 year term with a potential extension option of a further 5 years.
The utility is now inviting interested parties to provide further information and help it to understand market interest and commercial options.
Following the initial pre market engagement phase, Portsmouth Water is expecting to issue a further call for competition in February 2024.
