Scottish Water has gone out to tender with a contract for transport of bioresources worth an estimated £15 million.

Scottish Water Generic - Van

The water company is looking to appoint a supplier to provide transport services for wastewater bioresources in the form of sludge cakefrom its sites in the south of Scotland. The supplier will be required to supply suitable containers to meet individual site requirements, hold a Waste Carrier’s Licence and conform to relevant legislation and codes of practice.

The contract covers the transport of wastewater sludge cake from nine Wastewater Treatment Works (WWTW) and one PFI (Private Finance Initiative) WWTW in the South of Scotland to various other nominated outlets throughout Scotland.

All sludge cake are required to be transported in suitable containers to be closely covered both on and off the vehicle to protect from weather ingress, improve odour control and be constructed in such a way to prevent leaks.

Initial contract term is 4 year initial period with 4 potential annual extension options.
