Somerset Council has awarded a contract for Chard Reservoir safety works to Kier Integrated Services Ltd.
Chard Reservoir is a Large Raised Reservoir – under the Reservoirs Act 1975, the reservoir is classified as a Flood Category A dam defined in Floods and Reservoir Safety (2015) published by the Institution of Civil Engineers, where a breach of the embankment ‘could endanger lives in a community’.
The reservoir was constructed in 1842 to provide water to the Chard canal, which linked through to Ilminster. Following the arrival of the railway to Chard, both the reservoir and canal became redundant in 1868.
The 91.4-acre reservoir north east of Chard in Somerset is owned and managed by Somerset Council.
The contract has been awarded without prior publication of a call for competition as a Direct Award through the SCAPE Utilities Works and Services framework.
A single tender was received under the procurement, which is covered by the Government Procurement Agreement - Kier Integrated Services Ltd has been awarded the contract.
According to an award notice, the lowest offer received was £831,497.81 and the highest offer: £991,000 taken into consideration
