Thames Water has awarded a contract for technical inspection and testing services worth an estimated £3.2 million.
The contract covers work to ensure the water company’s legal obligations are met across all its sites for periodic examination and inspection of various types of equipment and assets for defects.
This will include lifting equipment, personnel safety equipment, pressure systems, local exhaust ventilation, dilution ventilation systems (gas rooms), passenger lifts and fuel and chemical tanks.
Thames Water also intends to include some safety critical items which have not previously been included and are not a legal requirement, but are ‘best practice’ to examine and inspect regularly; like digesters, electric gates, racking and roller doors.
Manchester-based firm British Engineering Services has been awarded the contract as the single supplier. Thames had been looking to appoint a competent, experienced and technically proficient supplier capable of completing all of its examination and inspection requirements.
The company has been working with the utility since 2012 on inspections to keep Thames' plant safe and operational.
The initial term will run for 3 years with options to extend to a maximum term of 8 years.
