The contract covers the transportation services for all internal liquid sludge and raw sludge cake from sewage works to sewage treatment works throughout the region. Services to be provided under the contract include:

  • business as usual liquid sludge tankering services
  • business as usual internal raw cake transportation services
  • reactive liquid sludge tankering services
  • reactive internal raw cake transportation services
  • data capture and compliance management
  • reporting

The water company generates approximately 70,000 tonnes of sludge cake and in the region of 800,000 litres of liquid sludge per annum. produces liquid sludge and sludge cake at its sites which require transporting to waste water treatment sites. The service is required on a daily basis 24/7.

Widnes-based firm Suttons Tankers Ltd has been awarded the contract, one of three companies who tendered for the work. The raw cake transportation element of the contract may also be subcontracted out plus part of the liquid transportation.
