The Environment Agency has published a new report setting out the initial findings of the Natural Flood Management (NFM) programme and how it is strengthening flood resilience.
The Environment Agency (EA) has been given the green light to progress its plans for a £21.5 million scheme to further strengthen flood protection for over 1,200 homes and businesses in Tonbridge and Hildenborough by increasing the maximum stored water level in the Leigh flood storage area.
Heavy rain has caused significant flooding in parts of Scotland and England - much of Cumbria saw around a month's worth of rain by the end of Thursday with as much as 250 mm over the fells.
The Government has asked the independent National Infrastructure Commission to investigate how the risks of surface water flooding can be better managed, following a spate of inland flooding incidents in recent months.
A new flood mitigation programme at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk on behalf of Anglian Water will use an innovation-led approach to protect properties, delivering more than 20% cost savings on traditional approaches and minimising disruption.
