Last week’s heavy rain and flooding in South Yorkshire and North East Derbyshire has impacted some of Yorkshire Water’s infrastructure.
The National Farmers Union is warning that while the UK has £20 billion of flood defence assets in place, too little is being spent on upkeep – and is calling for spending to be increased.
ADA, the representative body for drainage, water level and food-risk management authorities, is calling for a fundamental shift in the government’s approach to dealing with flood risk and water management.
The Government has announced further support for people and businesses in areas affected by recent flooding – amid ongoing criticism of its handling of the situation.
Boris Johnson will chair a meeting of the Government’s emergency COBR committee today - the move follows mounting criticism of the Prime Minister’s response to major flooding in northern England.
