The Environment Agency said it has been working day and night to reduce the impact of flooding across parts of northern England following persistent heavy rain.
The current serious flooding in South Yorkshire is featuring in the main headline news in the press and media this morning - severe flood warnings of threat to life are in place for parts of South Yorkshire, while a major incident has been declared in Sheffield.
A new report from the Environment Agency (EA) is recommending that the best way to provide maps of flood extents and impacts in real time to support improved flood incident management is through a combination of pre-made flood maps and simplified flood modelling.
The Met Office is forecasting severe weather tomorrow across parts of England and Wales, with warnings of “injuries and danger to life from flying debris” especially in the southwest.
The £4.5 million Godalming flood alleviation scheme, which will protect 90 properties, has been officially unveiled this week by the chair of the Environment Agency, Emma Howard Boyd, and South West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt.
