Northumbrian Water is partnering in a £3.8 million project to reduce flood risk in a County Durham village. The work in South Moor, Stanley, will be carried out by Northumbrian Water, in partnership with Durham County Council and the Environment Agency (EA), as part of the Northumbria Integrated Drainage Partnership (NIDP).

The Environment Agency has started work on a £15 million project to refurbish Boston’s Grand Sluice, helping to protect 9,000 homes and over 25,000 hectares of farmland from the devastating effects of flooding.
The Environment Agency has expanded its flood warning service across Cheadle, Stockport and the Platt Bridge area of Wigan to ensure more people than ever across Greater Manchester are warned about any imminent risk of flooding.
UK councils suffer on average 43 flooding incidents a year, with nationwide recovery costs of up to £566 million, according to findings from Infrastructure Policy Advancement (IPA), the policy think-tank at Bentley Systems Inc. More than half of councils (57%) also reported that their sewer systems had been overwhelmed in the last decade.
